Our Mission
Dedicated to assisting Veterans with disabilities, members of the Armed Forces, and their families.
Our Programs
OPERATION RESCUE CHRISTMAS:
Collecting Unwrapped New Toys, Gift Cards, or Monetary Donations for low-income active-duty Military & Veteran Families. Through this program we collect unwrapped new toys, gift cards from department or grocery stores, and monetary donations. Military or Veteran families who apply or are nominated by Military Commands are provided with Holiday gifts that we receive from donors or that we purchase with donated funds. We make every effort to match applicants with age-appropriate or specifically requested gifts, although we can’t guarantee this.
OPERATION BUILDING HOPE: Modifying Veteran’s Homes For Safe, Handicap-Accessible, Independent Living. Through this program we provide home modifications for veterans (of all eras) with disabilities and active duty military/veteran dependent children with special needs. These modifications usually include constructing wheelchair ramps and roll-in-showers, widening doorways, and lowering cabinets and countertops. We focus on serving our veterans, whether the disability is due to combat-related actions, non-combat injuries, illness, or age. You served our country and deserve our Nation’s respect and support.
ADOPT A PROJECT: Do you work for or own a construction or trade business? Is your social circle, church or civic group, or club looking for an opportunity to volunteer for projects? If your business or group has the skills and/or resources to put together a team… Let’s combine your expertise with our list of modification or renovation projects for disabled Veterans or special-needs dependents! MMIA maintains a list of applicants with needs to have their homes modified or be improved to livable conditions. There are many ways you can help and every little bit counts. Projects include, but are not limited to constructing wheelchair ramps and roll-in-showers, widening doorways, and lowering cabinets and countertops. Average Projects are $2,500 to $15,000. Businesses that donate services can gain a tax write-off for labor & materials. *Check with your accountant. Clubs and groups get the satisfaction of volunteerism and civic pride, knowing that you have helped your fellow man or woman or child.
HOMES FOR HEALING: Providing Essential Furnishings For Success. Through this program we provide household goods and new or gently-used furniture to formerly homeless Veterans. In recent years the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has helped reduce the number of homeless Veterans by a significant amount. This reduction was achieved by HUD’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, which combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). MMIA has a core group of volunteers who focus their efforts and time on this program. They ensure the donated furniture is fully functional and repair items when feasible. This team also pickup donations and deliver selected items to Veterans. Items that are donated, but not able to be utilized in small apartments are sold and this allows us to purchase items still needed to complete our Veteran deliveries, such as a new mattress or bathroom supplies.
FILL THE FOOTLOCKER: Join us in our mission and help show our
- active-duty U.S. Armed Forces members and military working dogs, stationed around the world;
- our low-income active-duty military and Veteran’s families;
- and our homeless Veterans;
that their country cares about them and their well-being. By donating today, you can be a part of a team that is dedicated to providing these men, women, children, and even military dogs, with items that will make a huge difference in their mental, physical, or financial well-being.
Our “Fill The Footlocker” program consists of three sub-programs:
- Military Care Packages: supports active-duty service members and military working dogs serving in combat zones and foreign posts.
- Homeless Veterans Stand-down Kits: supports our ever-rising number of homeless Veterans.
- Operation Rescue Christmas: supports low-income military and Veteran families during the holiday season.
Working within the community, MMIA collects items for all programs. Once items are collected, the items are prepared for shipment overseas. Items collected for homeless Veterans are distributed at the numerous homeless Veteran stand-downs held within the state. Financial donations are greatly appreciated to help offset the cost of shipping for Care Packages. Toys, gift cards and monetary donations are collected from November 1st to December 15th for low-income Veteran and active-duty military families for the holidays.
Care Packages: Since its humble beginnings in 2008, Military Missions In Action has sent 63,108 Care Packages downrange, to members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. These Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Coasties, and military service dogs serve around the world in combat zones, Naval and Coast Guard ships underway, and other foreign posts. Our country asks these heroes to do a job that is often times in harsh climates, in combat situations, difficult, and dangerous. All the while, they are apart from their loved-ones, their homes, and their country. The least we can do to support them is send them Care Packages and bring a little of home to them while they serve down-range.
SIGNATURES FOR SOLDIERS: Signatures For Soldiers is an on-going fundraising campaign raising money and awareness for Military Missions In Action (MMIA). Athletes and entertainers sign trading cards, photos and other items with 100% of the money raised going to MMIA. This program was started by Mr. Tim Virgilio, a MMIA Advisory Board member and former Board of Directors member. He is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing support and services for our country’s military veterans. Tim has been collecting cards since the early 80’s. While having no personal military experience, his father served in the Air Force so he knows about the sacrifice and commitment that members of our Armed Forces make. Tim wanted to contribute to MMIA’s funds and decided in November 2014 that he would combine his hobby of autograph collecting with his passion of supporting our mission. Since 2014 to-date, Signatures For Soldiers has donated over $92,676.
