About Wounded Warrior Project

WHO WE ARE

Every warrior has a next mission. We know that the transition to civilian life is a journey. And for every warrior, family member, and caregiver, that journey looks different.

We are here for their first step, and each step that follows. Because we believe that every warrior should have a positive future to look forward to. There’s always another goal to achieve, another mission to discover. We are their partner in that mission.

WHO IS A WARRIOR?

Veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001. You are our focus. You are our mission.

Here, you’re not a member – you’re an alumnus, a valued part of a community that’s been where you’ve been, and understands what you need. Everything we offer is free because there’s no dollar value to finding recovery and no limit to what you can achieve.

HOW WE HELP

Every warrior has unique challenges and goals. That’s why we provide a variety of veteran programs and services to help you take the steps that are right for you. What’s more, thanks to the tremendous support of our donors, you never pay a penny to get the help you need to build the future you deserve.

Here to listen, and to help
A listening ear. A helping hand. A community that champions your success. That’s what you gain when you connect with WWP. We’re fully focused on you and your unique needs, and we want to help you reach your highest goals – whatever they may be.

It starts with becoming a WWP alumnus or registering as a family member or caregiver. Then, the healing begins. With 48 peer support groups and counting, we can connect you to someone who knows exactly what you’re going through.

We’re here for family members too, because we know just how challenging it is to be the support your warrior needs. If you just want help figuring out where to start, we’re happy to point you in the right direction. It all depends on where you are right now. Together, we’ll figure out your next step.

Mental Health Services for Veterans
Not only do 1 in 3 service members live with PTSD, but 1 in 3 also feel they don’t get the mental health care they need. We’re here to change that.

Through interactive programs, rehabilitative retreats, and professional services, you can build the resilience you need to overcome mental health challenges, including PTSD, TBI, and more. With the incredible support of our donors, we’ve provided over 42,000 hours of intensive outpatient care and therapy sessions that have helped warriors like you move closer to becoming their best selves.

Start feeling like your best self
We know that a lot of warriors struggle with their physical health when they finish service. Maybe an injury was holding you back. Maybe you’re not sure you have what it takes to reach your goals and get into shape. But you are so much stronger than you think, and your health is completely worth the effort.

Results are our aim, so we set ambitious targets: 100,000 pounds lost as a group. 60% of participants with improved functioning. With our help, you’ll see real results. Move better. Eat better. Feel better. Sleep better. That’s what’s possible with WWP.

A bright outlook for your financial future
No one likes to worry about money, let alone talk about it. But when you’re transitioning to civilian life, it’s a conversation you need to have. We’re here to make that conversation an inspiring one, one that makes you realize that your goals are possible.

Whether it’s understanding the benefits you’re entitled to and how to get them, pinpointing a career path that fits your needs, or landing the job that will launch your career, we’re here to help.

Independence Program
Empowering warriors to live a more independent life
The Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Independence Program provides long-term support to catastrophically wounded veterans living with injuries that impact independence, such as a moderate to severe brain injury, spinal cord injury, or neurological condition.

The program is designed to support warriors who, without high-touch services, would struggle to live independently day to day due to the severity of their injuries. In addition, these services offer increased access to community services; provide rehabilitation through alternative therapies; and empower warriors to achieve goals, leading to a more independent life. Because every journey is different, we work as a team with warriors, their family members, and their caregivers to set goals to live a fulfilling life, at home, with their loved ones.

All warriors receive:

  • Comprehensive service assessment
  • Individualized goal-setting
  • Case management services

Based on individual needs, warriors may receive some or all of the following:

  • Community support services
  • Home health care services
  • Physical health and wellness opportunities
  • Alternative therapies (i.e., art, music, or equine therapy)
  • Stress management and resiliency training
  • Advocacy
  • Caregiver and family member support
  • Long-term care planning
